Why Every Adult Should Read Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

The children’s classic has life lessons for all of us

Of course, I’d heard about arguably the most famous children’s book of all time — I’d even half considered watching the movie.

But, you know what they say, the movies are never half as good as the original book. So, when a friend of ours gifted our 3-year-old son a beautiful hard-cover copy of the classic, my wife and I decided to read it together.

He is still too young for it anyway, so we decided to read it first.

It was my wife’s idea for a unique kind of date — just sneak inside a blanket in this chilly winter and read a classic book together. I was a bit skeptical at the start, but I should have known she has great taste in everything!

The start was a bit silly — why do the grandparents have to be called George and Georgina and Joe and Josephine? But oh well, the target audience was supposed to be young kids — and that’s how kid’s books are!

Funnily enough, I found my eyes welling up a bit a few pages in — yep, I cry easily but I swear it was a touching moment.

90-year-old grandparents of little Charlie Bucket would sit lifelessly in bed all day, but jump with joy and come to life when their young…
