The Curious Case of Medium Distribution Changes

Something’s broken, or I am finally on the out-of-favor list

Firstly, I’d like to establish what this post exactly plans to cover. There have been some notable observations around the Medium curation or distribution process that now seem hard to ignore.

What I don’t intend to do is provide a primer on what curation is or any wisdom on how to achieve it. I did that about a year back — here, so feel free to refresh your memory.

As you can see, I’ve had my fair share of curation — with 450 posts on Medium over around 18 months of being here, I’ve probably had well over half of them curated.

Distribution has lately felt like it means nothing — yet, here’s what I believe:

  • Curation is NOT something that guarantees high views or virality — as it has become fairly commonplace in the past year or so
