The Chicago 7 and the Kenosha Shootings — Is this the same America?
A baffled outsider in me has questions that need answers
I had just finished watching The Trial of the Chicago 7 the other night when I read about the Not Guilty verdict of the Kyle Rittenhouse case.
Kyle had been acquitted of killing two men and wounding one other because it was determined that he did so in self-defense i.e. his own life having been threatened.
Self-defense is not murder. It is just that — self-defense.
OK. Was Rittenhouse really engaging in self-defense or not is beyond my judgment or knowledge of the facts of the situation in Kenosha on August 25, 2020. So I will refrain from questioning or supporting the verdict.
My problem is a completely different one. I have an outsider’s view of America, having only lived there a few months of my life, and having known it only through all I read and see.
But there are some baffling inconsistencies that make me feel this couldn’t possibly be one country that is capable of such polar opposite actions.
Let me put these questions to you openly so I might find some answers.
