South Carolina’s Powerful Murdaugh Family Shocked by Double Murder

With no arrests so far, investigators continue to probe.

Certain families wield so much power in and around their areas that they often seem “untouchable” by anything untoward.

One such family is the Murdaugh family in South Carolina. In this case, the power came from a legacy in the court of law. For around a hundred years, spanning three generations, the leading men of the family had been top prosecutors in the region of South Carolina referred to as the Lowcountry.

As recently as two weeks ago, on June 7, the family has been the center of the news for unfortunate reasons. 22-year-old Paul Murdaugh and his mother Margaret Murdaugh were found dead in their hunting lodge in Colleton County.

The dead bodies were discovered on the night of June 7, found near the dog kennels on the property.

There were multiple gunshots on both the bodies and the deaths were classified as double homicides by the police.

The tragic deaths were followed by the death of Paul Murdaugh’s grandfather Randolph Murdaugh III. The cause of his death isn’t certain but it is believed that he was in an intensive care unit due to health reasons before his…
