The internet allows for a “safe space” for many people as it provides a cloak of invisibility and anonymity. In some cases, it even provides a confidence boost to otherwise underconfident individuals.

What you may lack in real-world charisma, you could make up for in an acquired sense of confidence and charm in the online world.

The social media profiles and personalities of many people are drastically different from their real-world personalities. However, social media and the internet also provide that same cloak of anonymity and comfort to the wrong kind of individuals i.e. prowling criminals looking for their prey in the online world.

Stephen Port was one such man. The “dating app killer” used online websites and dating apps to find his victims and ended up raping as many as eleven men and killing four of them over the course of his gruesome journey as a serial rapist and killer.

Background and early life

Stephen Port was born in February 1975 in Essex, UK. He was a bit of a lonely child growing up and was often bullied during his school days.
