The typical successful online writer or blogger has this uncanny ability to create a whole article of advice and wisdom out of absolutely nothing.

Their core skill, however, lies in being able to pick that one thing that the reader will definitely want to know more about. That one thing is typically a “shortcut” to something — because if there’s one thing we like more than anything as humans is for someone else to do the hard yards for us.

In there lies the easily exploitable trait that every clickbaity writer capitalizes on. However, if these articles were ever honest to the reader and not “dreamsellers,” here is what they’d actually read like.

I studied my behind off to get into a good college, got a degree, and landed a job with a company that was ready to pay me that kind of money, or I worked my way through years of earning a lot less until my experience commanded that sort of money.
