Midwives at public hospitals (best gynaec care in Asia) here in HK refer to all antenatal patients as "mommies" as a general term they have gotten used to They are non english speaking locals who are incredibly skilled at their jobs and trying to do their best. My wife tells me many women are offended with that label - what if they have a loss or miscarry or dont be mommies- again a case of unnecessary complicating well intentioned or accidental language differences. We need to get over labels.
