Keanu Reeves Is A Sign of Today’s Problems
He’s the wrong idol for the times we live in
“But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth.”
— Matthew 6:3, Holy Bible
It is said that the greatest form of charity is such that when you give to the needy, no one should ever need to know. There are versions of this teaching in nearly all religious scriptures. The premise is that you shouldn’t need to tell the world about your good deeds or claim any credit.
By that standard, Keanu Reeves is the embodiment of all things sacred and all things good. He’s a man who despite being a celebrity with huge wealth, continues to do extraordinary good deeds every day, yet living like an ordinary man.
He has a charity that is connected to a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research, without him attaching his name to it. He does multiple random acts of kindness that get noticed despite his efforts to keep them out of the media’s eyes. People swear by his kindness and idolize him as the man who everyone should emulate — and write praises about him all the time.
Yet, to me, Keanu Reeves is a glaring symptom of today’s problems.
