Anita, a bright Indian woman has just given birth to her second child. It’s a beautiful little daughter — and she’s delighted after a painful natural delivery.

Like all Indian mothers, the gender of the child was a surprise to her — but she’s ecstatic that her 4-year-old daughter, Amaira will have a little sister to play with. She’d always wanted a little doll of her own.

That’s when she looks up at her husband, who seems to have hardly any joy on his face. In fact, if she’s learned to read him correctly in their six years together, he’s trying to suppress disappointment and even mild anger.

Manish, her husband, has always been a great dad to Amaira, and has given him all the love, affection, and care.

But both he and Anita recall the day of Amaira’s birth as if it was yesterday. He had accompanied Anita in the operation theater, standing by her while she gave birth. He was overjoyed when he had first held his firstborn in his arms.

As he’d rushed out to tell his parents and parents-in-law the news, he couldn’t control the spring in his step. He’d announced that they were proud grandparents. His mom had been the first to ask the million-dollar question.
