It is 1 A.M. Yet I Must Write This Story for the Greater Good

A Brazilian movie just taught me the best life-lesson yet

I have had the privilege to travel to another country on a business trip after many years. On my last night here in Singapore, ahead of my return to Hong Kong, I decided to spend it on a movie marathon.

I watched a couple of sports dramas — each one better than the other — Adam Sandler’s Hustle and Ben Affleck’s The Way Back. Both inspired me as their portrayals of basketball coaches in two very different movies.

Yet, it was the third movie — one that I stumbled on to almost accidentally — that will probably leave me thinking and pondering all night.

The one thing I was already starting to learn from my business trip was that this is probably the first and the last time I want to travel alone without my wife and my three-year-old son.

Every minute spent away from them feels like an hour, and every day feels like a week. It just isn’t worth it.

And while I had all these thoughts in the back of my mind, I ended up watching this movie.

The movie is a Brazilian movie — nicely dubbed in English on the Netflix version I watched — and it’s called The Dreamseller.
