If Myntra’s Logo Was Offensive, What About These Taglines?

From an “over-imaginative” lens, each has a double meaning

When I saw the controversy about the Myntra logo recently, I was outraged not by the offensiveness of the logo but by the fact that there was a police complaint against it and that the company actually fixed it so quickly.

On the company’s part, hats off to them for listening to their customers, and bearing the immense costs it takes to make a logo change because it often means changing your inventory, packaging, websites, and many other parts of the supply chain.

The company was probably just taking the safe approach of not getting entangled in an unnecessary lawsuit and bad marketing, and instead decided to take the high road. But, to me, this is just akin to opening a can of worms — if this logo was offensive, then there are dozens of very famous taglines that are “offensive” if you are hell-bent on being imaginative and finding double-meaning in everything.

For the uninitiated, the logo change happened after an NGO filed a police complaint saying that the logo is “offensive to women” while also admitting that it didn’t seem intentional, but more an accidental design.
