I am Calling BS On All You Fake Animal Lovers
No, loving your pet dog or cat doesn’t make you an animal lover
The other day I was dining out with a bunch of friends.
They started talking about this documentary on Netflix that they’d all been watching and how it moved them and the “animal lover” in them was touched seeing some of the animal cruelty that happens.
One of them then went on about her love of animals and how she loved her dog and every other pet dog that she ever met.
Another chimed in saying she was more of a cat person but she could see herself having a dog someday too. Oh, how cruel it was for someone to shoot down a stray dog, or hunt deer for fun.
All this while, as she spoke, she carefully sliced out a carefully measured portion from the Wagyu beef steak that a bunch of them had ordered for the table.
I was the only vegetarian on the table — quietly eating my pasta — the only real vegetarian option at the restaurant.
This is when I politely enquired:
“I sometimes wonder how humans decided that it was OK to breed and eat fish, chicken, cows, sheep, goats, pigs and an infinite number of other animals, but eating dogs and cats was evil.
