How A Rolex Busted Canada’s Most Wanted Criminal
Albert Walker’s journey from financial fraudster to murderer.
Financial crime probably seems like quite a harmless thing when you compare it to heinous crimes like murder and rape. Yet, Albert Walker, con man extraordinaire went on to become Canada’s most wanted criminal and also got very close to the very top of the most wanted list of Interpol.
Having spent his lifetime conning people for money, and mostly known as a white-collar criminal, Walker’s arrest would actually come from a murder investigation. Crime often leads you down the path of more crime, and Walker is a perfect example of this.
July 1996 — A fishing net catches a dead body
Fisherman John Copik was out on a regular fishing trip in the English Channel along with a fellow fisherman on 28th July 1996. The duo decided to head to an area in the waters known as the “roughs” that they rarely targeted, and lowered the net into the water right down to the seabed with the help of a heavy weight to hold the net down.
When they trolled up the net into the boat, they were hopeful of a good catch as the net seemed heavy. However, to their shock, among all the fish, the net had a dead body of a man.
