Airlines Don’t Know How to Deal with Pregnant Women
My wife and I found out the hard way
After three years of the strictest quarantine rules in the world, we as HK residents finally booked an overseas vacation to Japan.
My wife, our nearly four-year-old son, and I were excited about Okinawa.
We’re expecting our second baby soon, so my wife’s got a few weeks before she hits the 28-week mark when she’d require a “fit-to-fly” certificate to board most planes.
For now, though, she’s technically supposed to be able to fly just like anyone else.
Technically being the operative word here — as we were about to find out in the most inconvenient way.
Hong Kong very recently lifted hotel quarantine requirements for inbound travelers.
As Hong Kong residents this was a huge relief for us as it meant we could actually take an overseas vacation without having to quarantine, practically jailed in a hotel, on the way back — not a very easy experience with a young son.
But, apparently, our first holiday was about to start off (and end) on an unpleasant note — thanks to the clearly untrained and ill-equipped airline staff.
