It is the year 2022. John and Amanda are a happy couple in the state of Texas. They’ve just got married. John’s got a big family that he takes care of — aging parents and a special needs sister. Medicaid hardly covers all of her expenses, and there is a constant battle of fighting each objection on a new prescription.

John doesn’t have a great job, but they get by. He saves all the money he can and only spends on the necessities, and still there’s nothing really left at the end of the month in terms of savings.

Amanda had a job, but the market conditions aren’t great and she was one of the hundreds to get laid off in the factory she worked at. She also wants to pursue a college education — but doesn’t have the money for it.

John and Amanda are all of 23 years old and it feels like the burden of the whole world is on their shoulders.

Yet, each day, they manage to keep a smile — as they have each other.

This day, however, is not like any other day. This day is special. Amanda has been feeling different for a couple of weeks, she can’t tell why. So, while John’s away at work, she decides to go see the doctor.
